Ask a writer why he writes and there will be some thoughtful musing and then varied answers. For every writer, there is a different reason for writing. Well, for those who are curious, here are my 10 best reasons why I write:
Freedom: Writing gives freedom- freedom of working from wherever you want, however you want. And the best is the freedom of writing whatever I want. I can write what I want to from my favorite corner of home. It is so cool.
Peace of mind: When you are a creatively inclined person, there are so many thoughts running in mind at the same time. Jotting down all these random thoughts help a writer in decluttering their brain, so that they can prioritize and focus.
Opportunity: Every thought and story can be a potential gold mine. You never know what story or experience of yours can become an international best seller. There are so many things, feelings, incidents etc. which a person feels and goes through. Who knows which one of them can turn into a popular book?
Record memories: Another reason is that I can record down my memories and incidents, pretty much like taking photos. The only difference is that a camera is not always there. Whereas you can always write down your experience by putting a little pressure on your fabulous memory.
Spread the knowledge: Many become writers because they simply want to spread and share the knowledge they have gained over years. Like for example, teachers. They have learned and taught for years and when they want to share their knowledge and wisdom, they write it down and hence, become a writer.
Share the love: Writing helps in spreading love too in the world. You never who may need an encouraging post or a lovely thought may motivate some person. Writing helps in sharing the feeling of love and a brotherhood, in times when the world is such a lonely place to be.
To invent a parallel universe: Writing is powerful. It gives the writer a power to create a completely new world, even if it is fictional or you can create fictional events in real world. The scope of creativity is huge and feeling of power is great, when the characters depend on you.
To bring a change: Many people write to bring a change in what they feel is wrong. From ages, writers have urged and motivated thousands of people to change their lives, rules, laws etc.
To get attention: Who doesn’t love it when people can identify them in streets? If you are a writer, there are chances that you have your own set of fans and haters, no matter how small you are. And most of us like a little attention in our regular mundane lives.
To de-stress: The last reason why I love writing is to simply put up my feet and write to de-stress after a long day at work. Writing calms down the mind and also physically relaxing at the same time.
Writing is a passion for me and I am those luck few for who have their passion as their profession. These are just the 10 best reasons which I can think of when it comes to why I love writing. But I really believe that even if none of these benefits were there, I would have still loved writing.
